No shampoo, and other oddities of late.

SAMSUNG

I have naturally wavy-ish hair, and awhile ago I started reading on how to better take care of it.  I'm not a fussy person at all when it comes to my "look".  I prefer to just... leave it.  So, that is what I have done.  Starting last Thursday, I have not washed my hair with a traditional shampoo.  What I have done instead is either use a small amount of conditioner, or every few days, "wash" with a baking soda solution, and "condition" with apple cider vinegar.  Today, for the first time, I put zero product in my hair, and this is the result: The day after or so it was fine, but on the third is when I incorporated the baking soda and vinegar - I just had to do something.  And, I'm liking this - my hair feels good, and it is actually starting to curl MORE than if I used a bunch of product on it. I will post updated pictures - it will get even better than this, based on what I've read :-)  What a money saver, too! I am on a week of kicking the health changes into high … [Read more...]

Fat Tuesday, Baby!

I didn't even know there was a Fat Tuesday until I met my husband 15 years ago.  And, I barely knew what the Lenten season was about.  Actually, I still don't know much about the Lenten season other than Catholic's walk around with Ash on their face on Ash Wednesday, and the 40 days signifies the 40 days that Jesus was out in the desert.  Oh, and that we should give something up to signify the sacrifice Jesus gave for us.  See - I don't know much about Lent :-) Seriously, though, I have never celebrated Lent, but I'm starting this year.  As in now.  I feel like I am being called, gently, to dive deeper in my faith, to draw closer to Him, and this is one way I can honor that. I actually was going to give up the computer entirely, but that doesn't work well when you are taking online classes, and your income potential (or unrealized potential) is from the computer, so yeah.  But, I can pick the one think that sucks up most of my time, needlessly.  Mark Zuckerberg will … [Read more...]

Yogurt Update

SAMSUNG

Awhile back I attempted making my own yogurt, and it took a few tries, but I finally have it down to a fine science.  I don't believe I shared what I tweaked, though!  Homemade yogurt is cheaper than store bought, and you have the benefit of NO ADDITIVES!  Seriously, take a minute next time you are at the food store and check the ingredients on yogurt alone.  I don't know about you, but I am sick of all the extras my food has, so I'm trying very hard to be more pure in what I eat.  That doesn't mean that I get it 100% of the time, or even 1/2 of the time, but I'm trying.  And, yes, this is way cheaper than store bought, and seeing how I'm going through a lot of it because of my smoothies, it is more than worth the little bit of time it takes. Let's begin! Start by forgetting to photograph the first step, which is taking about a half gallon of 2% milk and dumping it in a pot.  Oops!  Anyway, yeah, just pour it in a pot.  Now, other directions have you doing it double … [Read more...]
