It took everything I had not to Instagram pictures of my sewing projects as they were coming together, but that would have spoiled the surprise! This year I endeavored to make more presents since I had time on my hands. Except… time got away from me and I was cramming at the very last-minute to get things done. That’s just how things go sometimes, though.
Anyway, I’m not real good at following directions. I usually like to do my own thing whether we are talking about cooking, knitting, or pretty much everything. Certainly, I’ll looks things over to get a good idea of the plan, but then I usually veer off and do my own thing. Unless I know for sure it would be a bad thing, like… soap making. Since that is a science as much as an art, it can yield bad results if you don’t follow directions. I digress.
For Christmas, I sewed Phil a Sofa Caddy…
And, Kaitlyn a paint brush holder…
And, Amanda a Bedside Caddy
These were super simple to whip up. A couple of things I would do differently: make the pockets on the sofa caddy deeper to accommodate the remotes better. Also, I was using single bias tape, and I really should have worked with double, but that is all that was available. I did enjoy the finish it gave, though. For the paintbrush holder (which could easily be a knitting needle holder or makeup brush holder) I would make the pockets not as high. Last, I have a tendency to run my seams tight, and often that translates into them not actually being sewn together, but that is just something I need to work on, not a project fix.
If you have any questions about making up one of these, let me know. I don’t have step by step instructions since I just winged it but I would be happy to help if you choose to do something like this!
