I have heard mention of those special homeschooling moments that occur.. the oldest “teaching” the youngest… the “aha” moments, etc. Little did I think we would have one occur only on our third day, but alas, it did.
This morning, the girls got up, and got on their schoolwork – ON THEIR OWN. Amanda is somewhat limited as to what she can do, but for Kaitlyn, I suppose she could do the majority of her work, on her own. And, that is exactly what she did.
Wednesdays and Thursdays are our busy days – Awana’s and Girl Scouts, which leaves little time for “fun”. Phil made the deal that whenever they got done with school, they could watch tv, play on the computer, etc. They were done by one. Kaitlyn is not the most driven / self motivated person. But, she plugged through. And, not in a half-ass way, either. All work was completed, readings were done thoroughly. Math actually took a bit longer because I was trying to test her out of the current Unit. Which she passed very well, thank you very much.
So, they are messing around, and I am catching up on some things. Tell me again the negatives about homeschooling? Because frankly, as of right now – even only three days into official home schooling, and a month with being with them 24/7, I just really don’t see any.
Oh, and that buzzword – socialization? Whatever. When I can see my daughter, in one short month, begin conversations on her own, with anyone, and look them straight in the eye? Not so much an arguement in my mind.
Ps: Not real pleased with the overall look of the site, so hopefully (in my spare time) I can come up with something a little more shnazzy. Input welcome!
