Won’t you join us for Science experiment night? Don’t forget your safety goggles!
Friday nights are the designated experiment night. Phil and Amanda are at the kitchen table learning about the properties of water. Amanda came out in her full regalia of Bob the Builder goggles & gloves – thanks Dad, they have a new purpose! Amanda said that she has to be “prepared” for the big explosion. She must have seen a chemistry experiment gone bad, LOL!
The peace that has come over our home in just a few short weeks is amazing. There is very little bickering, sassing, and arguing. There is a quiet sense of strength among all family members, which definitely does this mama’s heart good. My patience and willingness to take the time to explain even the simplist things has begun to return. It sure feels good. Phil has a level of patience towards the girls that I have not seen in quite some time, and even between the sisters there is a notable difference in the relationship.
I have sent back a few things to Sonlight to create a more fitting curriculum (or is it curriculi, ha!), as well as to supplement some areas that I see are lacking (for Amanda it is phonetic understanding, and for Kaitlyn it is more challenging grammar, and language arts). All in all I am so pleased with Sonlight – definitely expensive, but for a first time homeschooler, and for the type of learners I have, it is perfect. The week ended a little more lax than I would have preferred, but that is only because they didn’t have “complete” studies that last two days, and Kaitlyn wasn’t feeling well today.
Monday is on the horizon, and I feel much excitement and anticipation over the new week.
