The girls are doing so well – even with the bumps, overall we can see good improvements with them. They are getting bored, which hopefully means they will “enter the school” with great gusto on Monday. Everything is in place – books are inventoried and organized, ready for use. Boards need to be mounted, but they too are ready.
Funny thing about the chalkboard. As mentioned here, the total cost to make our own chalkboard ended up being around $25 (with supplies). Well, I can do you one better. When painting the chalkboard the first time, it came out too textured. Mr. Day sanded it down, and the textured was perfect, but it really did need another coat, so I did that, but this time with a foam brush.
The surface was smoother, but still textured, and I resigned myself to dealing with some bumpiness. Until I happen to be messing around with the original board. I grabbed a piece of chalk and started writing on it. PERFECT SURFACE. Note – this was attained simply by doing nothing. Only bad part, is it is brown, but who really cares? Nice, huh?
